Flare a pattern at the waist and hips
To flare the pattern, start from the underarm edge of the pattern piece.
This way, you keep the specified armhole.
Flare the pattern straight out
One option is to flare the pattern straight out.
To do this, draw a new straight flared line downwards, starting from the bottom edge of the armhole.
In the picture, you can see that this makes the pattern a few sizes wider at the waist.
Remember to make the adjustment equally on both pattern pieces.
Flare the pattern – keep the waist shaping
If you want to keep the shaping at the waist, you can draw the line less straight and slightly curved along the original line so that the pattern flares out only from the waist down.
Start the new line around waist level—or as shown in the picture, slightly below the bust darts—and gently curve the line out to the desired new size.
Remember to make the adjustment on the back piece as well. Then cut the pattern pieces accordingly.
